Pre-Apprentices
Those applying to become a Pre-Apprentice must meet the qualifications required to become a registered apprentice which are as per the BC Provincial Standards.
After 1600 hours of employment the Pre-apprentice is either released from employment or encouraged to continue in the trade as a First Year Apprentice.
Wage Package
- 40% of Journeyperson’s rate
- 8% Vacation plus STAT Holiday pay
- BC Medical – after the first 800 hours.

Apprentices
Manufacture, layout, fabricate, assemble, handle, erect, install, dismantle, repair and servicing of sheet metal systems and other materials used in lieu of.
- Will learn to perform the above as related to the following systems:
- Dust collection systems
- Heating, ventilating and air-conditioning systems and other forms of air handling systems.
- Welded fume exhaust systems
Specifically:
- Fabricate and install various metal ducts and fittings to various industry standards.
- Acoustic lining of ducts and plenums
- Double walled duct systems with perforated metal inner skins
- Flashings, curbs and vents
- Louvers, dampers, fire-dampers, silencers
- Air diffusers, grilles, access panels
- Duct flexible connectors
- VAV box installations
- Architectural sheet metal components
Wage Package:
- 0-1,600 hours – 50% of Journeyperson’s rate
- 1,601-3,200 hours – 60% of Journeyperson’s rate
- 3,201-4,800 hours – 70% of Journeyperson’s rate
- 4,801-6,400 hours – 80% of Journeyperson’s rate
- 12% Vacation pay and STAT Holiday pay

Journeypersons
Shop Journeypersons work with the most up-to-date machinery available, to produce ductwork, fittings and specialty products.
Field Journeypersons measure, order, lay-out, off-load and install the duct systems from our shop fabricates.

Site Foremen
The site foreman is responsible for the successful planning, coordination, installation and completion of a project at the site level. Successful completion includes a project that is on time and within budget, providing quality workmanship and service to a satisfied client.
Skills and makeup of a site foreman:
- Logical and clear minded thinker
- Able to make independent and sound decisions
- Good communicator

- Organized skills
- Basic understanding of construction methods and designs
- Mechanically inclined
- Ability to comprehend Mechanical, Architectural, Structural and Electrical Drawings
- Ability to read and understand contracts, specifications, scope of works and submittal/shop drawings
